Mises: The Last Knight of Liberalism

In Mises: The Last Knight of Liberalism, Jörg Guido Hülsmann has surely written the definitive personal and intellectual biography of perhaps the greatest economist of the 20th century.

Hülsmann takes us into the world of Mises’ childhood, and the intellectual climate of his day. Hülsmann’s knowledge of economics enables him to explain and evaluate Mises’ major works and the various arguments with which Mises contested. One of Mises’ major works, Socialism, converted many to the market economy, and left the socialists of his day without a viable system.

Mises’ escape from Europe in 1940 is thrilling and, it seems to me, such an important event in 20th century history. If Mises had been caught by the Germans he would surely have been sent to a concentration camp to die! As well as a great personal tragedy, it would also have been such a great loss to the development of economics. His escape to the United States enabled others to discover his work, and ensured the continued development of the Austrian School of economics in the English language.

Mises: The Last Knight of Liberalism, is published by The Ludwig von Mises Institute and is available as an electonic book (pdf, 5.5 megabytes), or in hardback from the Mises Store, or Amazon.

Danny, you need to really think about what you write. Would God really be happy with your political views, and having them plastered out their. Think about equality for all, not just for some. I hope you can sleep at night.

If you chase equality you’ll have none, if you provide liberty you’ll end up with some closer to equality. (MF) There are lots of bible stories and parables that support a free market of labor and capital, even industrial relations. Have a think about the workers in the field collecting grapes and wine they all got paid differently ect also what about all the parables with a person deserve the seat of his brow. This isn’t the same as saying that we should be gracious to those in need. it is very well contended that free markets and property rights have a moral foundation and are actually permissable and also encouraged. The gospel message is about the heart, not the wallet. However, you should also pay tax, you have to pay what you get for. – give to ceaser what is ceasers.
