Podcasts on Politics
If you like politics, let me recommend some podcasts from Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
Australia
- House of Representatives Question Time (website / iTunes) courtesy of ABC NewsRadio, is the ultimate in Australian political entertainment. Around 1 hour each day when the House is sitting. You could also listen to the Senate, but would you really be interested in the ultimate Australian political tranquilizer? I didn’t think so!
- Agenda (website) is a new show from Sky News featuring political interviews by David Speers and reports on national issues. Each show around 25 minutes, Monday to Thursday.
- Sunday Agenda (website) with Helen Dalley, is the Sunday version of Agenda from Sky News. Featuring political interviews by David Speers and reports on national issues. Each show around 25 minutes.
- 7.30 Report (website) with Kerry O’Brien is a video podcast, and allows you to download individual segments rather than the entire show. Each segment around 5 minutes, interviews can be longer. Updated Monday to Thursday.
United Kingdom
- Prime Minster’s Questions can be found at PMQs on Guardian Unlimited (website / iTunes). In the back catalogue, listen to PMQs for 27 June 2007 (Tony Blair’s last) and 10 October 2007 (Gordon Brown’s toughest). Alternatively, The Downing Street Podcast (website / iTunes) also includes press conferences with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. Fun!! Prime Minister’s Questions runs for 30 minutes each Wednesday when the House of Commons is sitting.
- Politics Weekly on Guardian Unlimited (website / iTunes) is my choice for a weekly review of UK politics. Another option, but less entertaining is Weekly Political Review (website / iTunes) from BBC Radio 4. Each weekly show less than 30 minutes in length, released after Prime Minister’s Questions.
United States of America
- This Week with George Stephanopoulos (website / iTunes) is the audio version of his television show on ABC. Interviews with politicians, a round table discussion, and as always, the Sunday funnies. Each show around 45 minutes released weekly on Monday morning.
- The President’s Weekly Radio Address (website / iTunes) is a parody of the real President’s Weekly Radio Address, hilarious! Each show, less than 2 minutes, released weekly.
