Apple Reports June Quarter 2007 Results
Apple has reported financial results for the June 2007 quarter. According to the press release (25 July 2007), Apple:
posted revenue of $5.41 billion and net quarterly profit of $818 million … . These results compare to revenue of $4.37 billion and net quarterly profit of $472 million … in the year-ago quarter.
shipped 1,764,000 Macintosh® computers, representing 33 percent growth over the year-ago quarter.
sold 9,815,000 iPods during the quarter, representing 21 percent growth over the year-ago quarter.
From the conference call:
- Mac unit shipments grew at 32 percent in the United States, over 4 times IDC’s latest published growth estimate for the US market in the June quarter.
- NPD reported that Apple surpassed Amazon and Target to become the 3rd largest overall music retailer in the US.
- The iPhone was on sale for the last 30 hours of the quarter. During the quarter Apple sold 270,000 iPhones, and 146,000 iPhones were activated.
- It took Apple 7 quarters to sell 1 million iPods. Apple hopes to sell 1 million iPhones by the end of September 2008.
- Apple hopes to be selling the iPhone in Europe during the December quarter of 2007. Apple will announce plans with European carrier partners later in the September quarter.
- CFO Peter Oppenheimer reiterated Apple’s goal of selling 10 million iPhones in calendar 2008.
- COO Tim Cook stated that AT&T said that more iPhones were sold in the first weekend than they had sold in the first month for any other wireless devise in their entire history.
